U.S. NPS Preservation Briefs

Preservation Briefs provide information on preserving, rehabilitating, and restoring historic buildings. These NPS Publications help historic building owners recognize and resolve common problems prior to work. The briefs are especially useful to Historic Preservation Tax Incentives Program applicants because they recommend methods and approaches for rehabilitating historic buildings that are consistent with their historic character.

National Trust for Historic Preservation

For 70 years, the National Trust for Historic Preservation has led the movement to save America’s historic places. A privately funded nonprofit organization, works to save America's historic sites; tell the full American story; build stronger communities; and invest in preservation's future.

Window Preservation Alliance

The Window Preservation Alliance (WPA) was formed in response to requests to have window restorers exhibit at regional and national building and historic preservation events. Since most window restorers work in geographically small areas, it made no sense as individual companies to have this sort of presence. But, as a group, representation can be equal to or greater than the replacement window manufacturers. Together we can have a voice. Together we can save original windows.

Michigan SHPO's main function is to provide technical assistance to local communities in their efforts to identify, evaluate, designate, interpret and protect Michigan's historic above- and below-ground resources. The SHPO also administers incentive programs that include the Michigan Lighthouse Assistance Program, federal rehabilitation tax credits, and pass-through grants available to Certified Local Governments. The knowledgeable SHPO staff is led by the state historic preservation officer, who is designated by the governor to carry out provisions of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended.
